Since many students want to learn the material, but do not necessarily want to compete, MathCounts has a Club-in-a-Box of activities for a MathClub. At NCRJHS, we have supplemented this material with videos and activities of our own. The format of our meetings is casual and promotes peer learning and team problem solving strategies, rather than lectures. Some meetings have themes, some focus on one aspect of mathematics, and others are a pot luck of math concepts.
Through participation in the club, students can earn a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Level Status from the MATHCOUNTS organization. Silver Level Schools receive a plaque and Gold Level Schools receive a banner.
More about the MATHCOUNTS club is available in this Frequently Asked Questions file.
To achieve a Silver Level recognition, at least 12 club members must complete 5 of 6 monthly activities below by the end of February.
